Hydraulic disc brake and rotor compatibility?
Hi, I own a tektro aruiga comp hydraulic disc brake (07) and i just wonder if i can use other rotor on the brake like hayes or avid.
But my current rotor is a bit thicker than others like hayes or avid's , so does it really matter. thanks
The thickness won't really matter.....or at least it shouldn't. I've never seen a rotor that was *that* much thicker than others to where it's mattered. I haven't paid close attention to the Tektro rotors I've seen or ridden, though.
Most rotors are interchangeable between different brands of calipers with no trouble. There are a few odd sizes out there, however, so if your rotors have more than about 5mm difference in diameter, you may find an issue with pad contact/positioning on the braking surface. If that's the case, sometimes you can adjust it or shim something....if not, then you'll need to stick with the "proper" rotor. Most of the time it's not an issue, though.
