Non mountain tires for my mountain bike?
Does anyone know of a light tire that has little rolling resistance for a 26 inch rim around the 2.35 inch width mark? Most likely something like a kenda kyniption?
I had some IRC Metro Duro II tires for a little while....they were the widest slick I could find at 2.1". Great tires, but I think they discontinued them. They were as close to a true slick that I could find without going really narrow. What you read about rolling resistance doesn't play out to be true...those wide tires rolled smoothly like you wouldn't believe even at lower 45psi pressures.
Right now I ride Maxxis Holy Rollers on the urban rig. They come in 2.2 and 2.4 and roll very nicely (Maxxis widths run narrow, btw). Kind of an inverted tread and they actually do very well in the dirt, as long as the sand isn't too deep and it's not muddy. Not as fast rolling as a slick but still pretty nice. Similar tires are the Kenda K-Rad and the DMR Moto RT (very similar to each other). The Maxxis is more durable with both tread and sidewall, but the other two do roll a little better. Intense came out with the Micro Knobby that people seem to be liking, too, but it's narrower. The Halo Twin Rail is another one that's built for fast pavement rolling (2.2").
