why is my mountain bike squeak so loud when I brake?
It wasn't like this when I first bought it. I've it about 2 months and I haven't rode it until recently. both front and rear brake squeak so loud that it's sounds like horn
Always check for anything loose on the brakes. It will be obvious. If there is any doubt, don't ride the bike.
1. You have disc brakes and they have broken in. What is happening is that the pads are grabbing and releasing quickly enough to cause the rotor to make noise. This is common and not a real problem, just noisy. You can try cleaning the pads and rotors, making sure there isn't any debris or residue, but that's about it.
2. You have cantilever or linear pull rim brakes. When the pads are near perfectly parallel to the rim, you get the same basic phenomenon as with the disc brakes. Here you can solve the problem. Get Kool Stop salmon colored brake pads and toe them in. These pads squeal less and often come with built in toe in aids, so set up is easier.
