hi. I have a trek 3700 bike. I would like to do some tricks and other stufff. I would like first how to do a wheelie. In what gear, etc. etc. Also i wolud like to do dome cool tricks like going down staris (big or long ones) etc. By the way i would also like to do some downhill, jumps. I dont like BMX i only want to get in a downhill competition. Other thing I would like to know is whether it is better to buy disc brakes or is it enough with normal ones.
And also I would like to know how to improve my resistance speed etc, So i would like to know some excercises or something.. i want to know everything about downhill, mountain bike. and other extreme types. It is okay with my bike or do i need other one. Thanx
You sound just like me 3 years ago. Stick with the 3700 for a bit longer. Practice your wheelies bunny hops and other stuff. When you get good, really good and are noticing that you are really trashing your bike. Step up to a downhill bike. Cannondale Gemini's are good to start out on. Thats what I did. Thay offer a decent amount of front and rea travel and are pretty hard to kill ( just be where of the rear derailler hanger They kinda bend easy). Anyway onto the wheelie.
To start of get in a gear that gives you a feel of great ecceleration to energy out put. This always varys and you just have to play with it. Try something like 1:3 to start in. Try not to get in the 6,7, and 8's. instead if 1:5 is to much pedal rpm's then go to 2:1 and so on. Lift up on the handle bars and pedal forward at the same time. Lean back a little in the saddle at times to help get the right area of balance. This recuires practice and time. You will eventually find the right position.
Stairs. These are easy and fun. Just stand up, DON'T SIT!! You WILL rack yourself. Yous hould be positioned slightly behind the saddle depinding on speed and the incline of the stairs. This is once again something you need to just get out of experiance. Just remember the steeper the farther behind the set but don't over do it.
As far as downhilling. Read up on it. There is way to much stuff to say in this answer. Try purchasing Brian Lopes' book; Mastering Moutianbiking Skills. Sounds like on of those dumb un-helpful books but this is chalked full of golden information. It will cover everything from cornering techniques to Jumps to drops to pedal efficansey. Definantly read this.
As far as compitng in a DH race. You will need a bike with a minimum of 5" of travel front and back. That is the absolute bare minimum. Most DH bikes will run 7-8.5" then you got the really long travelled bikes with 9-12". Like I said earlier the gemini is a great starter bike. Disc brakes are a must in DH to.
