Downhill Mountain Biking Basics : How to Position Seat Height & Angle for Downhill Mountain Biking

Training on a mountain bike = better performance on a road bike?
Here's the deal. During the week I live in the city where I can easily get onto some really good roads and train for road biking. However, I am limited to using a 1990 Schwinn that, while mechanically great, is a mountain bike with no shocks, and a very un-roadbike seating position.
On the weekends I have a bianchi I can get in a hilly area north of me.
The point is, would training on a mountain bike, as I've been doing, really hurt my roadbike performance? It def. is harder to get the same speed out of the poor seating position/big knobby tires as opposed to riding my bianchi.
I just dont want to enhance the wrong muscles/pick up bad roadbiking habits.
Thoughts?
lmao, Mr G! I do try to keep good habits...
one bad thing the mountain bike lets me do, is goof around on sidewalk shortcuts if traffic is getting particularly bad! haha.
I cant wait to feel how light my bianchi feels after tackling hills on the old schwinn!
I don't see a problem with this at all!
It's best to train on a heavier bike
(but I think you know that already - eh?)
As long as you remember 'roadie discipline' when it comes to riding with roadies!
For example, just this weekend I caught up with a group and one person obviously was used to mountain bikes (the camelbak gave it away) they constantly shook the drinking tube and splattered me with whatever fluid they had in it! I overtook but stayed with the group, only to find this person climbing the verges near the kerb trying to reclaim their position! This person was a complete pain in the neck and I even contemplated kicking them off!!
Keep the roadie spirit mate, and you'll do ok.
