What are good mountain bike spokes?
I recently purchased a Shimano Saint front hub and want to build a new wheel, could someone please recommend some good spokes and a good rim to use? any advice on building is welcome as well. Thanks!
I really hate that i have to put this on every question I ask to get a good answer, but please, I understand a bike shop can answer my questions the best, however I don't have the time to go to mine right now...I just want some preliminary knowledge of if there is a type of spoke better than the others, and what a good rim would be to build with/ where i can buy these things. Thanks to everyone
DT Swiss or Sapim are the only two spoke companies worth using... NEVER let anyone talk you into using anything else, period.
Depending upon what you want to get from your wheel, either company has a variety of spokes to fit different needs... Heavier gauges for stronger wheels, thinner gauges for lighter wheels, double and even tripple butted for strength with low weight. Given that you bought a Saint hub, I'm guessing this is a DH bike so I'd recommend going with something like a DT Swiss 14 gauge. Brass nipples last longer than alloy but allow nipples are lighter. I'd recommend brass for anything but a lightweight XC wheel.
...And I agree, it's damn annoying that these posters are so caught up in just accumulating 'points' that they answer every question despite not having a clue.
